Rebecca Petersen

Rebecca joined Murray-Nolan Berutti LLC as an associate in 2023. Rebecca is a native of Michigan and Illinois and pursued her undergraduate work at the University of Illinois in
Urbana-Champaign with majors in aviation and political science. She spent two years in the Navy ROTC, with the goal to become a U.S. Marine aviator before a medical condition sidelined
her. She graduated with a BA in political science in 1999, after spending her senior year abroad in Swansea, Wales. After college, Rebecca migrated to North Carolina, eventually attending the University of North Carolina School of Law. During law school she participated in International Moot Court and the Civil Legal Assistance Clinic. During a summer internship with the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office, Rebecca decided to pursue a career as a criminal prosecutor. Rebecca began her career as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Essex County, New Jersey Prosecutor’s Office, handling a variety of criminal cases and often carrying a caseload of over
one hundred open cases at a time. However, Rebecca stepped away from prosecution to take on her most challenging and fulfilling job, being a mom. Though she was not actively engaged in
the practice of law, she never wavered in her strong commitment to the Constitution which she had taken an oath to defend, and her desire to fight against injustice. It was her own fight against an egregious injustice that drew her back into the field of law and, eventually, drew her to
Murray-Nolan Berutti. Rebecca is a fierce advocate who recognizes that now, more than ever, we must stand and defend individual liberty, especially in public education.
